    Summary

Sunday marked both the end of a rainy pattern and the start of the Pittsfield Vets 2006 season. Unfortunately, most of the team members must have though the game was canceled for only 5 Vets players showed up to the game. This mindset must have been mutual for the opposing team, Always Growing, only had 9 at game time.

Regardless, the two teams agreed to share players and have a 7 on 7 handy-cap match. To be realistic, a person on the batting team played catcher. This setup would leave both teams 2 players short on the field.

The Vets struggled to adapt to this playing environment, giving up countless hits. Most hits were made by snapping the ball through gaps in the fielding coverage. Others were made due to fielding mishaps, likely due to rust gathered during the off-season. Despite the troubles, the team’s defense battled back, thanks to a defensive revote lead by A-WOL in the outfield and infield. The Team even limited AG to one run in the fourth.

While the Vets struggled, AG defense took matters in strides, making quick work on the Vet’s batting line-up in the first three innings, leaving them scoreless in the second and third. This could have also been attributed to the fact that AG snuck an extra fielder onto the infield after the first inning. (Didn't think we'd notice? Shame on you, AG!)

Regardless of their offensive struggles, the Vets offense broke-out the fireworks in the fourth, scoring 7 runs. This offensive rally was charged by 2 center field homeruns belted by Bill. This revote ended as Fran was caught trying to score from third.

The game was called after 4 inning due to length as the Vets fell to AG 26-10.

    Highlights

  • Joelle: 4 for 4 (2-2B) with 2 RBIs and 1 run.
  • Bill: 3 for 4 with 2 HRs, 3 RBIs and 3 runs scored.
  • John: 3 for 4 (3B) with 3 runs.

  • Bill: first Vets player to hit back to back homeruns.
  • Web gem: a diving catch by A-WOL in center field in the first

  • After the game, a player on AG asked Joelle to quit the Vets and join their team. (Very classy, AG.) Obviously Joelle declined.
